Our Village

Elten is a  part of Emmerich and has nearly 5000 inhabitans. It is split in Eltenhill (the hill is about 80 meter ) and down- Elten, the center.

Here you can find everything what you need daily and also things, you don’t need (in 2 second-hand shops).

On the weekly market on Friday, you can buy fresh fish amongst other things.

Elten is a popular destination for cycling tourists, especial our dutch neighbours like the numerous restaurants, from local food, over italien to steaks – everybody will find something delicious.

Beneath the Elten Mill, you can find a little bistro, whereyou can have coffee and cake every Sunday.

On numerous cycling and hiking ways and and some signposted Nordic Walking ways you can run off the pounds again.

On the top of the 82 meter “high” Eltenberg stands a 1000 year old St Vitus church. Beneath the church, you find a well, wich is 57 meter deep and also 1000 years old. Immediately behind the Vituskirche, you see the STONE created from a 50-t-granite ashlar GATE with two ever 6.80-m-high wings. It steers the view into the Rhine Valley on the 350 year-oldbaroque garden in Cleve. Take seat on the chair of the prince'sabbesses and let the view axis in rest work on yourselves.

On Elten hill, you can also visit a barefooted path situated in the wood with various different subsoil or play a round mini-golf

After these sporty exertions, you can have an original dutch pancake ore some poffertjes in the Pancake house.

Surrounded by green borders

Elten is "surrounded" on three sides by the Netherlands, only in the direction of Emmerich you can stay a long time in German territory. While walking or cycling, you will otherwise repeatedly cross the Dutch-German border, which today is no longer a problem.

Asparagus - White Gold

The culinary highlight is achieved in Elten certainly in the spring when asparagus is served fresh from the field. Especially in the asparagus season, we are particularly happy in Elten, for we can get the most delicious asparagus not far from our house.

Freshly peeled, we pick the asparagus at Spargelhof van Bebber - asparagus grown on the Eltenberg - and after only a few minutes by bike we are back at home and can enjoy it. Also, it's certainly interesting to watch the asparagus peeler at work ...

In and around Elten there are many asparagus farmers who offer their asparagus daily fresh from their farms, from April to June 24.
