Knooppunten - a great invention
Nearby excursions by bike - they're nowhere as easy as here, thanks to the Dutch cycling trails system where all trails are connected. Simply choose the numbers of the desired route, and you'll be led by signs from node to node. And at most nodes, there is also a general map with the next destinations. And this system is also spreading on the German side - this way, cycling tours are easy to plan and spontaneous to implement!
At node 7 or 8 you are almost at our cottage.
Hiking doesn't have to be lonely
Eltenberg is considered the highest point of the Netherlands (even though it's located in Germany) and so many friendly Dutch people, equipped with mountain hiking boots and walking poles, use to every possible occasion to visit Elten for a little hike. In particular, the annual "4Daagse" (4-day-hiking) tour draws a lot of attention. When walking around Nijmegen for 4 days and 200km, this small elevation (82m) probably makes a welcome change!
But even without any big events you can put on the walking boots in our house and make many scenic tours, for example to the Rhine or through the woods to Dutch S'Herenberg.
